Skyping with Honolulu

We had another great Skype call today! We loved talking with Mr. Bowling's students in Honolulu, Hawaii!! We had a blast learning about the volcanoes and craters in their area. It was fun to hear that they play the same sports and participate in some of the same activities that we do. Most of the students found it interesting that they learn Japanese as a second language. We can't wait to Skype with them again!

Skype Excitement

We had a great Skype call with a 3rd grade class near Chicago, IL. Our room was full of excitement! We had several visitors here today during our call, including a report (Hannah DeClerk) and a photographer from the Marshall News Messenger. The kids are so excited to see themselves in the newspaper this weekend! 


Our visit with the students was great! We learned some things about Chicago that we didn't know, like the tallest building is the Willis Tower. The Willis Tower used to be called the Sears Tower. The students found it interesting that it was snowing in their city today, and they were still in school!! They don't get snow days like we do! They love to eat deep dish pizza and want to try some of our steak fingers.

Snow Day!

It's official! We are using a snow day tomorrow!! I know everyone is very excited and probably already thinking about what they will write about in their journals and blogs. ;) 


I can't wait to hear about all of the fun my students are having with their families! I hope they bring some great snowman pictures to share and write about! 

Back and Ready for Action!

Well, we are back from a very refreshing break, and everyone is ready for learning again! Once again, I have fallen behind on this particular blog and have a lot of catching up to do. I promise to work harder at updating on a regular basis. I've gotten much better at updating my technology blog and plan to spend more time on this blog during the new year.


I'll start by updating you on another Skype call. We had the opportunity to Skype with a businessman in Marshall who explained the important role that math plays in his job. We had a great conversation and you can some of it through videos found on my website. Click here for the link. Anytime we do another Skype call, you will be able to see the information from this location.


I have also found a really cool Web 2.0 tool that allows us to map our Skype calls. The students are able to see exactly where our calls took place, and provides a place to keep pictures or videos from the call so that we can share. Click here for our map.


One of the other great things we have been doing is blogging! We haven't created a ton of blogs yet, but we are starting to get the hang of it. If you click here, you can see some of our first posts.


This should give you plenty of reading and viewing to complete for awhile. I'll be updating more this week about our UIL field trip, so check back for more information.
